Irma Vep + Port Erin & Charivari

“Irma Vep is a loner, a joker, a roamer, a ribald construct riddled with both earnest anxiety and mercurial songwriting talent birthed by a young Edwin Stevens in Llanfairfechan, North Wales. Thrust into life after his mum bought a four track recorder for him, Edwin started recording for the cathartic process rather than the outcome.

Having since fully grown into Irma Vep and now residing in Glasgow, Stevens’ discography has expanded to document every aspect of his music, from ecstatically free group experiments to bare, sparse songwriting that cuts to the quick, shorn of ornament or pretence. “

Drawing inspiration from the likes of pioneering greats such as David Bowie, Can, Miles Davis, Morphine, Radiohead, Syd Arthur, Talking Heads, Talk Talk and Tortoise there are a milieu of sonic textures are at play in their sound with echoes of jazz and post-rock coupled with mechanical, driving Krautrock rhythms –– they are as punk as they are prog and as political as they are personal.

Port Erin are currently working on their much anticipated 5th LP that will be released in 2020. Catch them live across the UK this year where they’ll be airing more and more new songs as the next recording session edges closer.

Atmospheric glooming noiseniks with a penchant for exsistential Foreboding. A schizoid phantom wavering between post punk and dark gaze

“Purge is eight minutes of sheer ambition, emotion and intelligence. The sound is MASSIVE, filling every part of the room (listening on headphones is a heady experience) and whilst there is a straight musical narrative that runs through the song, it is when the band swerves into unexpected territories that it truly elevates itself above the norm. 8/10 Louder Than War (single review)
