Following the hyperactive power-pop of ‘ELEVEN11_GTR_SONG’, NO WRONG NO RIGHT sees LARRY PINK THE HUMAN continue their streak of exploring fresh sonic regions with each new chapter.
With the project still only a year old, this new addition to LARRY PINK THE HUMAN’s burgeoning songbook showcases Laurie’s penchant for hooky, optimistic songwriting, whilst Jolyon’s production talents add a lo-fi, minimalistcharm.
Full of sentiment, but never saccharine, NO WRONG NO RIGHT invites you to revisit your youth in the wake of life resuming post-COVID. Allow Laurie & Jolyon to set the scene:
“It’s the summer of 2021. You’re 16 again, lockdown is almost a distantmemory the taste of freedom is in the air. So close you can almost touch it. Wireless AirPods in, you are on a journey. A walk to town, a trip to your nearest city on a train, plans to meet all your friends. £20 in your pocket (probably on a Monzo, actually). ‘NO WRONG NO RIGHT’ is this very moment. Uncertainty, excitement, beautiful pure naivety, the human experience.”
This knack of capturing a moment and articulating it with poise permeates throughout Laurie & Jolyon’s work, both of whom are polymathiccreatives in their own right.
Visual artist, photographer & clothing designer Laurie has exhibited his work across the UK and collaborated with the likes of Lazy Oaf, Cheap Monday and Adidas.
As one half of punk duo Slaves, Laurie has picked up a Mercury Prize nomination and collaborated with the likes of Gorillaz, Skepta and Slowthai.
Jolyon, who is himself a Mercury Prize-nominated songwriter and producer, has contributed production to Kendrick Lamar’s Damn LP, as well as working with U2, M83 and Royal Blood (for which he won 2018’s MPG Breakthrough Producer of the Year award).
Jolyon is also a member of video production collective Youth Hymms, with whom he has worked on videos for the likes of Snoop Dogg, Nike, Wolf Alice & ALMA. FACEFIXX, a short film that Jolyon made with Youth Hymms, was exhibited at the V&A Museum.
More than just a band, LARRY PINK THE HUMAN is an ideal; an outlet through which both Laurie & Jolyon can explore their creativity and collaborative relationship without genre confines, intertwining their various passions along the way. “Without music I wouldn’t do the art,” Laurie explains. ‘It’s all been a journey in learning how to mould the two together and grow as a pair.’
This outlook is exemplified within NO WRONG NO RIGHT, an ode to limitless possibility and embracing the new. “The awkward funk baseline and sickly sweet pop chorus are the soundtrack to your very own Luca Guadagnino mini-series,” the band summarise. ‘Life is messy, It’s sticky, sweet, sour, there is simply NO WRONG NO RIGHT.
The free ticket holder must just need to demonstrate you’re a National Lottery player by showing either a physical ticket or one on the app at the door. This could be a weekly draw ticket or a scratch card and they must be over 18 to purchase and hold a National Lottery product. The original ticket holder must adhere to the age restrictions of the venue.
