PA Information
As in Moles Club, a decent PA system, fully installed, and ready to run is a prime requirement of a regular venue. It helps to make gigs run a lot more smoothly, and cuts down greatly on sound-check times. Although the system in the Porter Cellar Bar, is a lot less powerfull than Moles Club, it is perfectly suited to the task of providing the amplification needed in this cosy and intimate venue.
The desk is a 16channel Allen & Heath with 2 foldback sends per channel, and 2 effects sends. There's some on-board reverb, as well as an SPX9000, and an ???? reverb. For those difficult occasions, there's a stereo compressor to smooth out the peaks and troughs.
Foldback is provided by a pair of Peavey self-powered monitors in front of the stage. There's a selection of microphones - SM58s and SM57s, along with some active Brooke-Siren DI boxes, and the usual mic stands of various descriptions.
Tom or Fred are available if required to do the sound for you. We always provide a sound engineer who is fully conversant with both the room and the system, and is capable of getting the best sound in all sorts of situations. We do ask bands with louder drummers to use a special set of sticks to keep the volume to acceptable levels, given the nature of the vaulted cellars in the venue and the need to keep our neighbours happy! In this context, we have a sound level meter, and there are limits set in the contract, so please be prepared to keep the level below deafening.
