Comedy Cavern

If you're looking for stand-up comics, great visual gags, good compering and a night of solid entertainment to start the week off with a good laugh, this is the place tp come. We feature nationally known comedians like Hattie Hayridge, Junior Simpson, Daniel Kitson and many others.
For the record, the Comedy Cavern was opened in September 1998 and kicked off with a great evening of comedy and has flourished ever since. Competition was tough at the outset, but the quality of the acts, and consistency won out, and the Comedy Cavern is now the only weekly comedy club in Bath. The intimate space in which to work appeals to acts who have travelled from all over the UK (and abroad) to work here. The reputation of the club has grown with punters and with performers steadily over the years. We have seen Rob Newman perform a one and a half hour show, Robert Llewellyn (of Red Dwarf and Scrapheap Challenge) perform his one hour show and have been visited by Milton Jones(The very world of Milton Jones BBC R4),Steve Merchant(co-writer of 'The Office' BBC 2), Ross Noble, Donna McPhail, Adam Bloom, Men In Coats, Daniel Kitson, Jimmy Carr, Brendan Burns and Phil Nichol.

I have compered over 100 shows to date...still using just two jokes...and it is my favourite club in England, and I've played hundreds of others. We get a wide and varied audience who all love to try to win the infamous 'caption competition' or joke competition on some nights. The atmosphere is cosy and intimate and this is why we have built a loyal following over the past four years.

We have recieved much support from Mathew Zuckerman at The Bath Chronicle who believes in what we are doing and his coverage has helped spread the word about what is happening here. Four years on the work everyone has put in is beginning to pay off and we hope it continues.

Please note that the early bird tickets for the comedy only apply to students who buy a ticket in advance.

All Comedy shows start at 8pm, but you are advised to get there early (7ish) as it can get busy later.

A Message from our compere: Geoff Whiting

Hello to all internet surfers and comedy fans...!!!

The last year has been another good one for the Comedy Cavern having been chosen to host the South West heat of the 'So You Think You're Funny' competition for the sixth consecutive year. This is the most prestigious new act competition in the and previous finalists include Peter Kay, Johnny Vegas, Lee Mack and Ardal O'Hanlon. We continue to nurture a unique atmosphere in this small basement bar which is simply second to none and have been hosts to a wide range of acts as always in the past twelve months...Arthur Smith (who popped in for a drink and ended up performing a set), Rufus Hound (now a regular presenter of Top of the Pops), Andy Parsons (a regular guest on 'Mock the Week, BBC 2) and of course local rising star Russell Howard.

Many now established acts have appeared as newcomers at the Cavern, including Jimmy Carr and Ross Noble. In the past year we have featured several new acts to look out for in the future...these include Electric Forecast, Andrew Lawrence and Sarah Millican, amongst others. I have expanded my own operations considerably in the past year and am now responsible for booking comedy into Bahrain and Germany as well as many UK comedy clubs. When I first worked as the comedy booker for the Comedy Cavern it was one of only three clubs I programmed comedy shows for....now there are eighty two.

I continue to work furiously around the UK comedy circuit and have been lucky enough to work with Anne Robinson and Noel Edmonds on my travels as a TV warm up act...I always mention the Cavern to other comics and 'celebs' alike so look out for Noel popping on any time now to take in a show.

We have a superb run of Edinburgh Preview shows coming up in July that will include Ian Stone, MarkWatson, Inder Manocha and Tony Law, amongst other booked for your pleasure. I look forward to seeing you soon and offering you the tempting chance to try your hand at our infamous caption competition!

Jeff Innocent 'It should be made law that every British Citizen must go and see Jeff Innocent. He's that funny.' Evening Standard Jeff Innocent grew up the son of a real-life villain and could have chosen a career in the family firm. Instead he worked in the 70s as a window dresser in London's fashionable Kings Road & Carnaby Street for a smart chain of boutiques and at night was moonlighting as a DJ popularizing Jamaican music. By the 80s the retail industry had lost its charm and it was time for a new challenge. Jeff enrolled at University to study for a BA in Cultural Studies and stayed on to complete a MA in History & Philosophy, before finally answering his true calling 10 years ago and taking to stand-up. Jeff is now very much part of the comedy gentry and widely acknowledge as one of the Uk's top headlines acts and comperes. He has stormed comedy clubs all over the world including Singapore, Hong Kong, The Philippines, Dubai, Holland, Taiwan and more recently Japan. Jeff's many television credits as actor, stand-up and presenter include; Edinburgh Nights (BBC1), Gas (Ch4), I Love 1999 (BBC 1), Later with Jools Holland (BBC 2), The National Lottery Show (BBC1), The Stand Up Show (2 series for BBC 1), Take the Mike (ITV), Time Gentlemen Please (Sky), Real Eastenders (Ch4) and Brief Histories (BBC 3).
